Brad’s Cameo

For Brad Wall, this has been a memorable week navigating through a mine field of awkward moments and it’s not over yet! Earlier, the Premier had to distance himself from a Sask Party supporter after she made outrageous comments about people in a Saskatoon neighbourhood.

Later, Wall was quick to rebuke the Federation of Saskatchewan Indians for its reinstatement of disgraced former leader David Ahenakew as a Senator (which Ahenakew later declined.)

And then we learn Thursday that a boyish-looking Wall made a cameo appearance in the 1991 high school film “Tory Frat Boys.”  After this startling revelation, a contrite Wall told reporters that he would be calling Roy Romanow to apologize for his characterization of the former Premier and NDP leader.

On the videotape, Wall says, “Mr. Romanow’s got his head up his ass. I don’t even know how he walks upright with his head so far up his ass.”  What is Wall apologizing for?  Did he not mean what he said?  Politics is a blood sport and many politicians describe their foes in much more venomous language in private. Yet publicly, they talk a good game about ‘respect’ for their opponents.

What’s revealing about Wall (in his mid-twenties at the time of the video) is his obvious penchant to perform.  And so we’re treated to his interpretation of the Ronald Reagan rap song:

“Well, I’m the big gipper, don’t mess with me. I’m the baddest rapper this side of DC. With my best girl, Nancy, as my spouse, rappin to you from that big White House.  B-b-b-b Bonzo, b-b-b-b-Bonzo.  That’s the White House rap.”

Saskatchewan Idol, here we come!!!

My, my, my. Has the sanctity of the locker room been defiled this time! Why these half-inebriated and in some cases half-witted party faithful would speak their minds into a video camera is one question, but the bigger question that remains is, why on earth it wasn’t erased in the cold light of dawn? However, I think some good has come from it already. My faith in Brad Wall’s acting ability has been confirmed. I often wondered if his “young and boyish charm” approach to the media was merely aping his Devine Hero, or if it came naturally. Now I know. As for Tom Lukiwski: judging from his inane comments about gays, the poor codger must be very unsure about his own sexual proclivities. Most homophobes are. The fact he offers himself as an alternative to the gay man is laughable, but probably not for Mrs. Lukiwski, (if there is one). I also wonder how he liked Brad’s Polish/Ukrainian improvisation. Did it sound like any of Lukiwski’s close relatives? Would they like it? As for those tarty women in the video making comments about Barb Byers and Linda Haverstock, I also wonder what’s happened to them these past seventeen years? What contributions have they made to this province compared to Ms. Byers and Dr. Haverstock, or did they get locked up with the rest of the Tory crooks when that axe came down. Isn’t there a place in history for this classic? Do they still run the Funniest Video Show, or Stupid Pet Tricks? It would make a reasonable memento for the party faithful.
