No Trouble for Ralph

Liberal Ralph Goodale has a commanding lead amongst voters in the Regina Wascana riding according to a poll in today’s Regina Leader-Post.  Goodale was preferred by 51 per cent of respondents.  Conservative candidate Michelle Hunter was a distant second with 34 per cent. This SCIENTIFIC poll conducted by Sigma Analytics has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.44%, 19 times out of 20.

On a related note, why do media websites persist in conducting their own UNSCIENTIFIC polls on the 2008 election, where individuals regardless of age, citizenship, place of residence can register their virtual vote?  These surveys are meaningless because they are so open to manipulation by partisan interests.  A good example is the poll of Palliser candidates which appears on the Moose Jaw Times Herald website.

Another favorite of mine is when media outlets tell us how people voted on thier on-line polls but don’t tell us how many people voted. 75% is a strong majority unless only 4 people responded to your poll.

    Bill: Excellent point, Brent!
