Spring 2008 Semester

This semester will include the following topics:  media concentration, alternative media, hosting and interviewing, international reporting and journalism ethics.

Classes in this semester run Tuesday afternoons from 1:3o to 3:30, starting

April 15.

April 15:   ‘Introduction and Issues’ plus special guest Chidi Igwe on his book about Nigerian scams.

April 22:   ‘Hosting and Interviewing’ with CBC Radio’s Sheila Coles

April 29:   ‘News Perspectives’ with retired journalists Frank Flegel and Jim Oxman.

May 6:  ‘Ethics in Journalism’  with guests Pat Bell of the U of R School of Journalism and Nigel Simms, Managing Editor, CBC Saskatchewan.

May 13:  ‘Media Concentration’ with guest Mitch Diamantopoulos, Head of the School of Journalism at the University of Regina

May 20:  ‘Eye on Africa’ with guest Tim Tororey, former journalist from Kenya

May 27:  ‘Future of Newspapers’ with guest Janice Dockham, editor of the Regina Leader-Post

NOTE: Tour of CBC Regina building on Thursday, May 29 starting at 10:30 am

June 3:  ‘Life Inside a Hutterite Colony’ with guest Mary-Ann Kirkby of Prince Albert

NOTE: Tour of Regina Leader-Post building on June 4, starting at 2 pm.

June 10:  ‘Alternative Media’ with guest Stephen Whitworth, editor of the Prairie Dog
